Featured Specs

  • Adjustable fog output
  • Various misting options

  • The adjuster is better than most, because it can provide everything from very subtle mist all the way to solid fog.

Cons

  • Some people have complained about the tank leaking, so it’s important to be very careful with the hose and ensure that it doesn’t have any kinks in it. This will also ensure that it works properly.
  • It is often sold out.

Summary

This reptile fogger comes with an extension tube to make using it practical, no matter what terrarium setup you currently have. But it has lots of other good features – let’s check them out.

Featured Specs

  • Low noise
  • Suction cups

Benefits

  • This reptile fogger runs quiet, so that it doesn’t cause a noisy environment for your pet snake. It also won’t bother you, which can be great at night if you’ve set up your snake terrarium in your bedroom.
  • It’s built with dry-run protection shut-off, so that the tank won’t become damaged from not having water in it.
  • This reptile fogger comes with two suction cups to attach the pipe to the tank.
  • The stretchable tube that’s included with the fogger is great because it enables you to change the direction of the hose and adjust its length.
  • One of the best things about this fogger is that it can work with a variety of terrariums, cages, aquariums, glass cages, and more, so you won’t have to worry about it not being compatible with your current reptile setup.
  • This reptile fogger can run for about two days in low moist conditions, so it’s pretty user-friendly and low maintenance.

Cons

  • This fogger contains a piece on top that the hose attaches to, but it doesn’t lock into place, which means that any movement can alter the hose position.
  • It doesn’t have a large variety of settings to choose from.

Summary

This reptile fogger is another budget-friendly option. We ranked it just below the previous model, because that one has more settings for regulating droplet size. Other than that, this one is just as good.

Zoo Med Labs is a reputable name when it comes to providing reptile pet products, and this terrarium humidifier is one of the best on the market. Here’s why.

Featured Specs

  • 3-ft hose
  • Easy assembly

Pros

  • This Zoo Med fogger has an adjustable fog output control. This enables you to boost your pet snake’s humidity so you can mimic a tropical rainforest for them. You can use this fogger to increase the level of humidity in a small terrarium or create a humid microclimate in a larger one.
  • This fogger has a hose you can adjust to up to three feet in length.
  • It comes with a no-spill valve and a one-liter bottle.
  • This Zoo Med reptile fogger is really easy to assemble. Simply attach the cover to its base, and attach the hose nozzle and hose.

Cons

  • Some people who have purchased this reptile fogger have reported that the fan doesn’t last for a long time before needing to be replaced. This can be prevented by using distilled water.
  • The tank only has one-liter capacity, which is quite a bit less than what we’ve seen in other reptile foggers.
  • It doesn’t have a gauge to help you to monitor the humidity level.

Summary

If you want an easy-to-use reptile fogger and you don’t mind a smaller capacity, this model is a great choice. This biggest drawback for most is the smaller capacity. You’ll only want to use it for a small enclosure, or you’d need to refill it constantly. It also costs more than the other options above.

Reptile Fogger FAQ

What humidity level is required for reptiles?

It varies, but most reptile species need temperatures between 70 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit and humidity between 80 and 90%.

But not all. Some snakes live in natural environments with lower humidity levels. The corn snake, for example, likes a humidity of 50 to 60%. That means you likely won’t need a fogger at all.

But if your pet needs a higher humidity than is natural in your area, a reptile fogger, just like a humidifier, will help you maintain the right humidity without any stress or worry that you’re hurting your pet snake, lizard or other reptile.

This important. Humidity is not something to take lightly – if your snake doesn’t get enough humidity it can lead to dehydration, and, in severe cases, even death.

Here are some more common questions about reptile foggers and why they are necessary.

What does a reptile fogger do?

fog machine

A reptile fogger works in a similar way to a humidifier, but it’s smaller so that it can fit into your pet’s cage or terrarium.

When put in an enclosed space, a moistens the air which leads to water vapor condensing on the walls of the cage and the furnishings inside.

This increases the humidity level of the enclosure and also forms water droplets that your reptile can drink. “Do snakes drink water?” you may ask. They do. And they way they do it is pretty amazing.

As we’ve seen in the products we’ve featured in these snake fogger reviews, many foggers also produce a mist or fog effect.

A misting feature is great to help to keep your snake cool but also encourage fresher air inside its terrarium. However, there are some important differences between foggers and misters.

What is the difference between a mister and a fogger?

The main difference between misters and foggers is that misters spray a fine mist of water into the reptile enclosure. They create a cloud-like effect before settling.

Quality misting systems have a droplet size that’s 100 microns or less.

This is important to ensure that the terrarium has enough of the humidity your snake needs. You can also produce a dense fog for your snake, but for that you’ll need a 20-micron water droplet size.

Foggers, on the other hand, shoot water molecules into the air and this creates a fog-like effect. Instead of using powerful pumps to achieve this, foggers usually make use of ultrasonic sound so that the liquid water can be vaporized.

When a reptile fogger is placed in a small cage or terrarium, water vapor condenses on the walls of the habitat, which provides a convenient bit of drinking water for your reptile.

Which is better misting or fogging?

Both systems have their pros and cons. Misting systems control the humidity of the animal enclosure better than foggers and they produce more moisture than foggers. They can also be used to water plants.

By comparison, a fogger can mimic tropical environments with the humidity they produce and they are usually much quieter than a mister.

As an example, the Wacool reptile fogger on our list of reviews has a quiet pump so it doesn’t create too much noise in your environment.

This is much more pleasant, especially if you have a small home and don’t want to be disturbed by a loud fogger. It is also more pleasant for your pet snake.

Does fogging kill germs?

You might wonder if a fogger will disinfect your pet snake’s cage. It is actually the opposite. The accumulation of moisture in the cage can lead to a build-up of germs and sometimes even mold.

This is why it’s important to clean your pet’s cage on a regular basis and keep an eye out for any signs of dirt, such as a slimy layer on the walls. Make sure you clean every part of the cage on a regular basis.

You should also use a disinfectant, but make sure that it’s safe for your reptile. An example of a good, safe disinfectant is ProRep ProTect Ultimate Disinfectant.

It does not contain harmful chemicals, bit still works effectively to remove stubborn dirt and bacteria.

Ideally, you should not mist your pet’s cage too much as this could encourage bacteria to grow while also being too much moisture for your snake. Shorter bursts of moisture work better, but always check to see what your specific snake requires.

Generally, you should spray your snake’s cage just once or twice a day to give them the moisture they need, but again this depends on the type of snake you have. Desert snakes, for example, don’t need much humidity at all.

Best Reptile Fogger: Conclusion

If you own a pet snake, you’re going to need to ensure their enclosure has enough humidity. Most likely, you will need a reptile fogger.

But which one should you buy?

In this buying guide, we’ve featured foggers for reptile enclosures and explained what makes them our favorites. We’ve also answered some important questions related to reptile foggers.
